Wineries and Wine Cellars in destination Čatež and Brežice

The hills of Posavje are home to excellent wines that play an important role in the oenological map of Slovenia. Two wine roads lead across the sunlit hills: the Podgorjanska Wine Road and the Bizeljsko-Sremič Wine Road, which are definitely worth exploring. The local winegrowers will welcome you in designated vineyard cottages or wineries. You can also taste and buy wines at the Brežice Town Hall in the old town centre.

Podgorjanska Wine Road

Located on the right bank of the Sava River, this wine road is recognisable by its typical wine Cviček, a Slovenian speciality. Cviček is a special lightly acidic red wine, because it is made using both red and white grape varieties. It goes well with many local dishes and has a prominent role in the gastronomy of Posavje.
In Gadova Peč, also known as the cradle of Cviček, the locals set up a system of on-duty vineyard cottages open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, or any day by making a reservation by phone. Together with Cviček, you will be served some other homemade specialties as well.
